Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus

Today's Mass Readings

When Notre Dame burned down in Paris, France in 2019, it was a true travesty. That Cathedral not only represented the Archdiocese of Paris, it also represented France’s history. The whole country of France, and many in the World, mourned this travesty.

In Paris, there is another Church that is not as well-known as Notre Dame. High on Mont Martre stands Sacre Coeur, which means Sacred Heart. This Church is situated on the highest point in Paris. Travelers have to reach it by cable car. Once someone makes it up the impressive staircase leading to the Church they will find inside the beautiful fresco of Jesus and His most Sacred Heart. It is most appropriate that Sacre Coeur was built in the mid-1800s as public penance for the Franco-Prussian War. It represents most beautifully the love of Christ which flows forth from His heart to heal the wounds of war, division, and violence.

Just as Sacre Coeur still stands over Paris as if keeping watch, Jesus keeps watch for all Eternity, loving us with His Sacred Heart. He offers consolation to our hearts as we make the journey to Heaven.

Reflection: There are literally volumes of books written about the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The truth is very simple; we can turn our hearts over to Jesus’ Sacred Heart. Say a prayer consecrating your heart to Jesus today!
