Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Lent
“Amen, amen, I say to you, the Son cannot do anything on his own, but only what he sees the Father doing; for what he does, the Son will do also.”
Jesus has come so that we can believe in the One who sent him! He sent him for this purpose so that we can know that all that happens in the universe comes under the Providence of God, his Father! This means that we learn to be open to the presence of God the Father in every single thing that happens to us.
How could it be otherwise if God is truly omniscient and omnipresent, as we believe He is.
Now the Church, in her sacramental life, is the tangible expression of this. This tangible expression does not contradict the internal life of the believer but rather nourishes and supports it. The believer gains a humanization of his or her faith. So, for example, in my intimate union with Christ as a member of Christ – a member of the Mystical Body – I touch Jesus’ salvific and glorifying presence in the Holy Eucharist. This calls forth in me, if I am willing, a deeper faith to see God at work in all the events of my life.
How grateful we want to be for such a close presence of God in our lives!
