Monday of the Seventh Week of Easter

Today's Mass Readings

Jesus tells the disciples that the hour is coming when they will all be scattered to their own homes. The team is breaking up, and all will be on their own. Are the disciples ready for this? Are they worried that they won’t have the support of each other when they are on their own? I think Jesus senses their concerns and that’s why he follows with, “I’m not alone, the Father is with me.”

These disciples are really not going to be alone, they will have God with them. And God will be their strength and defense in any trouble that will come. Jesus is honest with the disciples, telling them that they will encounter trouble in the world. This is a truth that we need to hear today as well. We too will encounter the troubles of the world. And when we do, we can’t let them cause us anxiety. We take courage in what dwells within us, God. We are never alone. He is with us, that is our peace. St. Rita of Cascia, pray for us.
