Thursday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time
Jesus orders Simon to cast his net to sea to catch some fish. Simon tells Jesus that they’ve been out fishing all night and have caught nothing! Even though he’s doubtful, Simon still casts the net. The net caught so much fish that it started tearing.
Because of this particular gospel passage today, I’m going to make today Vocation Directors Day! I know that there are vocation directors, for religious and for priests, who have Simon’s attitude, there’s nothing out there, nobody is biting, we aren’t getting any vocations, and they are discouraged. They aren’t all like that, but there are some with those feelings. They especially need to note today’s gospel. We are His workers, Jesus will bring to us what we need, and He has that power. Let’s not be discouraged.
