Tuesday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

Today Jesus has raised someone from the dead! The people exclaimed, “A great prophet has arisen in our midst, and God has visited his people!” The Lord’s actions remind me of our first reading about how bishops and deacons have the same power as Christ because, in a way, they are Christ!

In the Rule of St. Benedict, Our Holy Father Benedict says about an abbot, “[The Abbot] is believed to hold the place of Christ in the monastery, since he is addressed by a title of Christ, as the apostle indicates: ‘you have received the spiritual adoption of sons by which we exclaim, abba, father (Rom 8:15).’” Bishops have the same responsibility to their priests, making sure they are “under control with perfect dignity. For if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how can he take care of the Church of God?”

Spiritual fatherhood is important in the Church. Pray for your bishops, abbots, priests, and deacons! They need your support!
