Feast of St. James, Apostle

Today's Mass Readings

Today we celebrate the feast of St. James. Not much is known about him, but let’s take a look at our Alleluia scripture reading. It says, “I chose you from the world, to go and bear fruit that will last, says the Lord.” God chose St. James to go and bear fruit. This relates to our reading from yesterday from Jeremiah, ‘before you were in the womb I knew you.’

In our gospel reading today, Jesus tells the sons of Zebedee that they will drink the chalice that he will drink, of suffering and torture that was given to him at the garden, and he will undergo a death for the Church. Like St. James, let’s proclaim the Gospel to everyone we meet. Let’s plant the seeds of faith, especially for those who need it the most.
