Feast of St. Mark, evangelist

Today's Mass Readings

On this Feast of St. Mark, we hear in our first reading today, “Clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble. So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.”

I have been reminded a lot lately that God loves us so much that even when other lights go out and it seems dark, Christ Jesus, resurrected and glorified, is the true light that helps us through dark times because he cares for us. He is our strength and our courage for perseverance.

Always remember that when we are weak, with Christ’s strength and light we are strong. At our lowest point is when God is truly with us, but remember that at our lowest point, we can still proclaim God’s words by action for never giving in to the devil’s temptation. In the first reading, Peter goes on to say, “Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the Devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, steadfast in faith.”

Can you ask the Lord to always be a light when all other lights in your life are going out? Remember the Divine Mercy image and those five words at the Lord’s feet, “Jesus I trust in you.”
