Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Today's Mass Readings

What a Motley Crew! Today we celebrate the Feast Day celebration of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Gospel for this great Feast is the Genealogy of Jesus. Today you’ll learn how well your parish priest pronounces biblical names. This Gospel passage is one of my favorites because it shows a royal lineage that includes the good, the bad, and the ugly. And wherever they stand, they are STILL an ancestor of Jesus and hold a place in his lineage. This is good for us to know because we’re just like them, we’ve got some good, we’ve got some bad, we’ve got some ugly. And guess what? We are STILL members of Jesus’ family. Friends we have a bond with Christ that connects us with him forever. We ma,y in that time, try to quit from him, try to move away from him, Jesus is totally the opposite of that. He will join Himself to us and never quit on us, that is how great His love is for us. The Blessed Mother was the Vas Honoris (“Vessel of Honor,” motto of the Abbey Basilica) that brought into the world the One who would save us all no matter where we fall in the Motley Crew.
