Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Who is it, who doesn’t like birthdays? The iconic “Happy Birthday Song” can draw even the most reluctant “non-singer” into joining in both the song and the smiles of the moment. Remembering a birthday not only highlights the beginning of life but also the whole package of gifts and significant memories included in that life. It’s truly like walking down memory lane.
Today’s feast of Mary’s Nativity extends an invitation to each of us to bring a gift of gratitude to the party. Our personal gift is our favorite blessing which has come to us through the intercession of Mary at some special moment in our life. This is our personal way to declare our faith that God had arranged for Mary to be born free from sin and therefore through her motherhood destined to be an integral part of Salvation History.
A question for you: Who would be in charge of hosting this birthday party for Mary? Who else but Jesus? He knew her importance as the great Mother figure for the whole Church. In the wedding hall she asked him to perform his first miracle for others in need. Typical for a mother? From the Cross it was Jesus who presented her to the care of the disciple John and the entire Church.
As Mother and Queen of the Universe, Mary continues to care for us as we celebrate her glorious privilege. She alone can direct all people and all things to eventual union with God through her Son Jesus. So, Yes! Bring your gift, and come join us at Mary’s Birthday party!
