Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

“Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals. Stay in the same house and eat and drink what is offered to you” (Luke 10: 4, 7). “The world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” (Galatians 6: 14). If I cannot live so radically and so simply, am I truly a follower of Christ?

Jesus sent 72 disciples ahead of him to various towns to preach that the Kingdom of God is at hand. They returned rejoicing, having experienced much success. St. Paul also preached the Kingdom – the cross, peace, and mercy. For his trouble, he bore the marks of Jesus on his body.

Christ has invited us to follow him in whatever state of life he has called us. We preach the Kingdom with the means (gifts) he provides. The foundational gift that will endure forever is love (1 Corinthians 13: 13). To love others as God has loved us will help us to do His will and bring us much comfort and consolation.
