Friday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

In one way or another, we have had moments where we know without a doubt God has worked in our lives; God stepped in and helped us in a moment of crisis. I imagine you can remember this moment down to how you felt before and afterward, what it did for you, and how it changed everything. Israel experienced that kind of God moment in the Passover when God intervened in a moment of extreme crisis, and God asked them to remember it.

Why is it essential for us to remember moments such as the Passover, the Last Supper, Crucifixion, or even the smaller moments God has broken into our lives? Two reasons. First, God’s actions never cease; his love, his care, and his power continue to work, even after we have lived through the initial experience. By remembering, we get to participate once again at that moment, receiving the assurance that God is still working. Second, it helps remind us to be grateful. When confronted by God’s unmerited grace, the best thing we can do is be thankful because then we offer back to God the life he gave us so he may make it even better.

Take some time today and remember when God has worked in your life. Use that moment to reassure you he is still there and then thank him for that gift.
