Friday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Fear not. The world is a frightening place, but fear not. On a daily basis, we see dangers to ourselves and others in our communities or on the news, but fear not. There are wicked people wish to take advantage of us, natural dangers from weather, and simple accidents that can cause us harm, but fear not.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus prepares his Apostles to encounter these many dangers as they go forth on mission to proclaim Jesus and the coming of the Kingdom. He warns them of the hostile forces that they will encounter, but assures them that they will have the power to face them because they are empowered by him and serving in his name. We, too, are empowered by him through the Spirit and represent him to the world. We need not fear the world, for he will likewise be with us.
