Friday of the Fourth Week in Ordinary Time
Today’s gospel account is the martyrdom of St. John the Baptist. I remember one time, our very own Fr. Aquinas said at Mass that if you look at the passage of where it says, “When he [Herod] heard him speak he was very much perplexed, yet he liked to listen to him.” Even Herod’s heart was moved when John spoke, and he could have been saved. Instead, because of an oath, he had him beheaded. What I see in this passage is that if we give God just a little bit of our love and cooperate with him he will do the rest. He will guide us on this road, this pilgrimage, and lead us to everlasting life. But we must trust in Him!
