Friday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time
Brothers and sisters, as we begin to conclude our study of the spiritual lessons in the Book of Tobit, let us put on the mind of Christ and see the profound parallels that are present between the obedience and mission of Tobit’s son Tobiah and that of Lord Jesus Christ to His Father in heaven.
In Tobiah, we find a remarkable foreshadowing of our Savior. Tobiah is a type of Christ, who was sent on a mission to reclaim what rightfully belonged to his father Tobit. He embarked on a journey to retrieve his father Tobit’s money, symbolizing the restoration of his inheritance. In a similar way, our Lord Jesus Christ descended from heaven on a mission to restore what was lost through sin, to reconcile humanity with God the Father. He sought to redeem our inheritance, the promise of eternal life, through his sacrificial death and glorious resurrection.
Tobiah’s mission is a powerful metaphor for our own spiritual journey with Christ. We are called to be instruments of God’s healing and restoration in the lives of others, just as Tobiah was for Tobit and Sarah. Through our faith, obedience, and reliance on the Holy Spirit, we can bring hope, comfort, and deliverance to those who are broken, oppressed, and in need of God’s mercy.
For Today: As we go forth, let us remember the words of our Lord Jesus: “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father” (John 14:12, KJV). May we, as his disciples, walk in the footsteps of Tobiah, bringing the healing touch of God’s love to a broken world. Amen.
