Friday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time
“Brother and sisters: Now our high priest has obtained so much more excellent a ministry as he is mediator of a better covenant, enacted on better promises” (Hebrews 8:6). This new covenant, given to us by the Son, is better because the because of what it brings about and how it is brought about. Jesus comes into our world to reveal to us the Salvation of God and make known the path to this salvation, for he says, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Jesus, who became the sacrificial lamb in atonement for our sins, reveals to us that the salvation of God is to enter into union with him for all eternity and he gives us the tools to journey toward him. For the Lord says, “I will put my laws in their minds and I will write them upon their hearts” and he continues saying, “‘Know the Lord’, for all shall know me, from least to the greatest.” By walking on this journey of faith we, through grace, are coming to know Jesus by seeking him out and growing in our desire for him which is leading us into the “better covenant, enacted on better promises”.
