Friday of the Second Week of Lent

Today's Mass Readings

Jesus says: “The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone…”

Today, Jesus can’t be clearer in his message to the chief priests and the Pharisees. The Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to others who will produce its fruit. From the beginning of his preaching, he will be show what the fruits of the kingdom are: reconciliation, peace, mercy, justice, compassion. These are fruits he expects us to produce.

The division in our country and that we find in our church as well doesn’t reflect the fruits of goodness and love any more than the brothers of Joseph exhibited when they let their jealousy get the better of them and sold him to the people going down to Egypt. A change of heart is still the call to us as we draw closer to Easter. It cannot be denied, or will we suffer the same fate as the chief priests and Pharisees?
