Friday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time
Jesus spoke these words to the scholars of the law to challenge their way of thinking about the Sabbath. For the scholars, the Sabbath was sacred, as it is for us, but it became a burden of extreme inactivity—not even good deeds were permitted. Jesus tells them that the Sabbath is demanded not to oppress the people but to give people real healing and rest.
How do you approach the sabbath rest? How do you approach Sunday? We are called to keep this day holy, set apart for God and for doing good. What good do you do? Do you spend time with your family to deepen your relationships with them? Do you spend time at Mass and in prayer thanking God for the good things in your life? Do you take time to be of help to those in need?
Take time as you prepare for the weekend, ask yourself these questions, and then take tangible steps to make the Sabbath holy and set apart for doing good.
