Friday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

St. Benedict says whenever you begin a good work, you should pray for God to complete it. Paul is convinced that this will happen when he writes, “I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus.” We could all use some of Paul’s confidence in God’s power to complete what he has begun in us.

What is the good work that has begun in me? No doubt my vocation to monastic life and to this community. Initially, I was not sure that God’s hand was directing me on this path and into this community. It was easier to acknowledge that God had led good people and wonderful opportunities into my life, and that helped me realize God had been at work all along.

But God not only begins good works in our lives; He also helps bring them to the completion He intends. Putting confidence in God’s continued guidance in our lives requires trust and gratitude.
