Friday of the Thirty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
In today’s psalm, we hear the verse, “My soul yearns and pines for the courts of the Lord. My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God” (PS 84:2). This verse from psalm 84 is a powerful reminder for me—and it can be for you, too—that we are not meant to be fully satisfied by the things of this world. Rather, one’s soul, heart, and flesh will only be completely fulfilled in a relationship with God, most perfectly fulfilled in Heaven.
While we live on Earth, God desires to cultivate our relationship with Him in everyday living. He uses all sorts of situations and people daily to draw us deeper into union with Him. Therefore, we should each try to be more attentive to these movements by God every day. As you go about today, do your best to see every situation and person you meet as an opportunity to encounter God’s call for you to be with Him. This may take the form of recognizing the joy of the Holy Spirit living in another person and giving God thanks for that. Or, it may look like being patient when a situation isn’t going exactly as you had planned and surrendering to God’s will in it. Because God is the source of all things, He can use all things to call each of us to fuller communion with Him. It only requires that we be open and receptive to noticing it.
