Friday of the Twenty-First Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

“For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.” These words from our first reading give us comfort and a certain amount of freedom. As Christians we are asked to follow Christ by taking up our cross and following after him. We are to be the prophets of God and proclaim the good news of the salvation of humanity through the life, death, and resurrection of our savior and lord Jesus Christ. But we may think, “who am I do have such an important mission?” or “why choose me, I am a lowly sinner not worthy of such a mission.”

The reality is we did not choose ourselves, or our brother and sisters did not choose us, but it is God who called us to become his prophets and disciples. Who are we to question God’s choice for his wisdom is beyond our wisdom? Who are we to say we are not worthy for God has made us worthy by his calling out to us? Who are we to say we are not strong enough for this mission for God says to us, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor. 12:9)?
