Friday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time
When we pray the Psalms, we learn, and learn again and again, that we are on a journey. We are not lone individuals randomly roaming the Earth. We are God’s people. We are the Church, the spotless Bride of Christ, although this beautiful Church will endure persecution on Earth. We are a people with a meaning and a purpose. We know “who we are and whose we are.”
We are a people redeemed and renewed by the precious Blood of Christ. Whenever we come to Mass and receive this precious Body and Blood in the Eucharist; whenever we are reunited to Christ and others in Reconciliation; whenever we attend a wedding and see a man and woman joined in matrimony celebrated in Mass; and whenever someone receives Viaticum before they depart this life, we see the face of God. We find God’s holy presence in the Sacraments. The Psalms are joined with the Holy Sacraments in a seamless fabric that joins us close together in the Church. We are so beautifully blessed to know that our longing, our deepest desire, is fulfilled when we see the face of God alive in His Holy Church. Amen.
