Friday of the Twenty-seventh Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

“The Kingdom of God has come upon you.”

Jesus drives out demons by God’s power. He can command them by divine right. He is, after all, the Son of God and an equal person in the divine communion of the Holy Trinity. Do you believe he can set you free? Do you trust him? Often, scarcity is a powerful motivator. When a commodity is running out, we will act fast to obtain it while we can. The irony is that the Pharisees and people of that day did not recognize who Jesus was and the opportunity they had in him. He offered them salvation. We are not better than them. We miss Jesus when we don’t recognize him. This current moment, this now, is a scarce opportunity for us. Seize it as a moment to have faith.

St. John XXIII and St. John Paul II, Evangelists of the 20th Century, pray for us. Amen.
