Holy Saturday
We have all probably heard the encouragement, “God will not give you anything you can’t handle.” The truth, however, is far from this. Examine your life; is it true? No, we receive suffering, in all forms, far beyond our strength. God allows or gives us suffering far beyond what we can handle, and that is the point. We are called to rely solely on his power to get us through; it’s the only way.
Holy Saturday is the day we mourn the death of Christ. He lays in the tomb, and the world is silent. Jesus, however, is not silent. He is at work descending the lowest places of human existence and pain, experiencing and redeeming all.
This is important because Christ has the power to encounter and help us in all of life. There is no suffering, no problem, no difficulty that Christ has not proven he has the power to heal. But we must recognize that it is only He who can do so.
In the hardest time of life, let us recognize that it is Jesus and his power alone that can bring through suffering. We are taught to rely on God alone; let us pray for the wisdom and humility to accept it.
