To become like Christ, and therefore to come to the Father, requires that we go to the primary source. The Bible is the best-selling book of all time, but is it the most-read book of all time?
Begin with the New Testament, especially the Gospels. Then move on to the letters of St. Paul. It will certainly be challenging, like someone in the distant future trying to make sense out of something we wrote today, but there is no substitute. Take your time and read these stories. Once you attain some understanding, then dig deeper by talking with a trusted person who knows Scripture better than you.
Once you know Jesus, you will understand why St. Paul converted to Christianity and risked the rest of his life sharing the Good News he discovered with others in distant lands. At some point, you will glance at the books in the Old Testament and (possibly) discover allusions to the Messiah (Jesus) there. Various pieces will begin to fit together, and your faith will grow stronger.
It might not be easy, but it won’t be a waste of time.
