Memorial of Saint Barnabas, Apostle

Today's Mass Readings

Have you ever been picked for something that changed your life?

In Acts, we hear how Barnabas went to look for Saul—not because Saul was popular or successful, but because the Spirit was at work. The Church in Antioch was growing fast, and the Lord’s hand was clearly guiding it. Then something striking happens: in prayer and fasting, the community hears the Spirit say, “Set apart Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” They’re sent—not because they’re ready, but because God is.

This is how Christ works. He chooses, He calls, He sends. And it’s not just the apostles or the saints—it’s us. You and I are sent. Maybe not across continents, but across the room. Across the street. Into daily life. Into hard conversations. Into service. Into witness.

Jesus tells us in the Gospel that He hasn’t come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it. That means His mission—and now ours—isn’t about erasing what came before, but bringing it to fullness. To live the law of God not as rule-followers, but as love-bearers. As people who live with purpose, clarity, and conviction.

So where is Christ sending you today? Who needs the word you carry, the presence you offer, the peace you bring?

Like Barnabas and Saul, we don’t have to be perfect. We just have to be faithful. Christ is still calling. The Spirit is still sending. The Church is still moving. And you are part of that mission.
