Is there one person who impresses you? Someone you truly esteem? Do you wish you were a little like him or her?

Timothy had known St. Paul for years. He was brought to faith in Jesus by St. Paul. He received instruction in the usual way. He also witnessed his way of life, which included faith and love, as well as patience, persecutions, and sufferings.

Timothy could have left St. Paul at any time. Why did he remain? Because Timothy saw a glimpse of Christ Jesus in St. Paul. The Saint’s witness was rooted in Christ Jesus. And, although persecutions did come with it, so did deliverance and salvation.

Timothy remained in Ephesus. Tradition holds that he became the first Bishop there, and that he was martyred when he opposed the worship of the pagan goddess Artemis.

Timothy, like St. Paul, died for his faith in Jesus. Like St. Paul, Timothy remained faithful to what he learned and believed.
