Memorial of Saint Clare, Virgin
Our nation and our entire world are in distress. There are limited resources in the world, which causes conflict between nations and peoples over who can possess and use these resources. Religions and societies clash over where or how they can live out their way of life. There are occasional periods of peace, but the world has always known war and bloodshed because people have always been frightened that they won’t have the resources to survive or that their way of life is in danger. God, on the other hand, instructs his chosen people to overcome their fears, to welcome the foreigner, to seek justice for the downtrodden, and to reject bribes to overlook wrongdoing. The troubles of this world will pass away, but our life in Christ will remain forever. Let us not be ruled by fear, seeking extreme and violent solutions to our difficulties. Rather, let us follow the commands of the Lord, trusting that He will provide for the needs of his obedient children.
