Memorial of Saint Scholastica, Virgin
Today is a GREAT feast! The feast of our Holy Mother St. Scholastica! A woman full of grace and love for her Divine Spouse. She was someone who could (to quote my dear confrere Fr. Timothy Schoen in a homily on St. Scholastica’s feast day) pray up a storm! When St. Benedict wanted to follow his own way to get back to his monastery after meeting with his dear twin sister, St. Scholastica knew that this would be the last time they would meet on this side of the veil. She prayed for that lighting storm because… She loved more!
The gospel reading today is a comparison to these siblings and Martha and Mary. St. Benedict is like Martha, worried about many things like making it home on time. St. Scholastica is like Mary, wanting her dear brother to stay with her, like Christ, so that he may also rest in Christ and not worry about the things of this earth. How can you love more like Holy Mother St. Scholastica?
