Memorial of St. Francis of Assisi
St. Paul and St. Francis were party animals and didn’t care about the Church. “Saul, Saul” the Lord Jesus said, “Why are you persecuting me?” “Francis,” the Lord said to him at San Damiano “build my Church!” In our responsorial psalm today, we hear “O LORD, you have probed me and you know me. Truly you have formed my inmost being. I give you thanks that I am fearfully, wonderfully made; wonderful are your works. My soul also you knew full well; nor was my frame unknown to you When I was made in secret, when I was fashioned in the depths of the earth.”
The Lord knew full well what Sts. Paul and Francis would do—there was no way that both of them wanted to act like Martha after their conversion. Oh no! They wanted to be near the Lord and to receive the better part, Jesus himself, so that they could do his mission in life. Let me ask you, are you worried about many things? I suggest you sit in your prayer room or prayer corner, let the useless anxieties be, and choose the better part by being with the Lord.
