“I will place my law within them, and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people.” This is the promise of the new covenant God made for Israel. This law would not be on tablets but written in their hearts and, “no longer will they have need to teach their friends and relatives how to know the LORD.” Is this new covenant of God how Peter could reply to Jesus’ question, “but who do you say that I am,” with such faith and certainty saying, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

The truest understanding of who Jesus is has been written on our hearts at our baptism in which we enter into the body of Christ. We must hear Jesus saying to us, “But who do you say that I am?” When we look to the covenantal love of God, which has been written on our hearts, we can find the answer to his question. We can say with certainty that, “you are my Christ, you are Our Christ.” By looking into our hearts to find this answer we find the rock that makes up the faith that will lead us into his eternal love.
