Memorial of St. Josaphat, Bishop and Martyr
We like things to be clear, understandable, and obvious. Unnecessary confusion or hiddenness is not appreciated, we live in a scientific society. The naked truth—in the news, in our classrooms, in our churches, in our politics, in our society—is important and desired.
However, when it comes to Christ, that’s not always the case. Not that it is untrue, God forbid, but that it’s not always simple or plain. Faith can be a complicated and hidden experience, wrapped up in emotion, hopes, fear, or doubt. We will have days of clarity and of joy and then days of darkness and trouble.
It is in this complicated living that faith is truly manifested. The kingdom is not simply saying, “I believe;” it is also acting, especially in confusing and dark moments, with faith: being consistent with prayer, going to Mass, doing works of charity, being patient, and allowing God to work.
The kingdom is among you by being present day after day in your life, in its ups and downs. Ask God to strengthen the faith you have and to give you courage when all seems lost.
