Memorial of St. Pius of Pietrelcina, Priest
Have you ever thought about the power of curiosity? We notice it in animals big and little as they sniff, poke, and prod to figure out what is in front of them. What a giant step for humans when curiosity supported by reason unlocks a whole world of discovery. But even more wonderful is to discover the possibility of a spiritual relationship.
As always, the Word of God calls us to open our minds and hearts to God’s great desire to communicate with us. We are God’s beloved creatures, remade for the second time when Jesus the Son of God took on our human nature. Some of God’s holy ones, such as today’s saint, popularly known as Padre Pio, experienced that communication in a very unique and powerful way. The rest of us are blessed with a kind of garden-variety curiosity inviting us to discover an ever-closer relationship with the Lord. Herod felt that curiosity, but he couldn’t change his heart. We meet the Lord every day, and He says to us: “Follow me!” Every day we can say: “Yes, Lord, I want to follow, but you’ll have to lead me?”
Reflection: How is the Lord inviting you to a closer relationship with Him through the gift of curiosity?
