Memorial of St. Teresa of Jesus, virgin and doctor of the Church

Today's Mass Readings

Today is the feast day of the great St. Teresa of Ávila! She once said, “Have courage for whatever comes in life – everything lies in that.” Jesus says in today’s Gospel, “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body…Even the hairs of your head have all been counted. Do not be afraid.”

St. Teresa always trusted in the Lord, even when times looked uncertain for her and her Carmelite order. Whenever I sit on the prior’s side of choir and look at the portrait of the Second Station of Jesus carrying his cross, I think to myself, “Lord help me to carry my cross daily, with your strength, courage, and most importantly with your joy and love. I cannot do it by myself. I need you. The weight is too much to bear by myself. I need your strength. When I feel weak and can’t go any further, I am actually strong. Help me, Lord!”
