Memorial of St. Thomas Aquinas, Priest and Doctor of the Church
In our alleluia verse today, we hear “Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom.”
Recently I was at Sunday Mass with my family, and my 4-year-old nephew said to me, “Br. Max can we go to adoration?” I took my nephew to the adoration chapel, and when I saw him standing on the kneeler with his hands folded, I couldn’t help but wonder what was going on in his little mind? Then after he was done he said to me, “Let’s light candles for the Divine Mercy.” We lit two candles for our family, and then he prayed again to Jesus in front of the Divine Mercy image.
As I was thinking about my nephew, I was reminded of St. Thomas Aquinas’ quote at the beginning of the movie, The Song of Bernadette, “For those who believe in God, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe in God, no explanation is possible.” If we have childlike confidence and faith, God will reveal to us the mysteries of heaven.
