Monday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
God meets us where we are.
With the help of his mother, the patriarch Jacob had to leave home quickly. He had stolen his brother’s birthright. He had deceived his father and received the blessing that was meant for the oldest son. Passing through unknown territory on his way to Haran, he tired and slept outdoors.
An official pleaded with Jesus to come to his house because his daughter had died. On the way, a woman sought healing from her hemorrhages by simply touching Jesus’ cloak.
God the Father came to Jacob in a dream. Faithful to his covenants with Abraham and Isaac, he renewed the blessings of a homeland and abundant offspring with Jacob. A repentant Jacob responded by promising to tithe back to God.
God the Son cured the woman with hemorrhages because of her great faith. He also restored life to the official’s daughter because of his humility and faith.
God has promised to be with us and protect us wherever we go (Genesis 28: 15). He is never far from us (Acts 17: 27). All we need to do is to humbly reach out in faith.
