Monday of the Fourteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Have you ever had one of those days? You follow the instructions of someone you trust, and you seem to be rewarded by another for doing so, but then you end up being sent to a foreign land by these very people, AND your brother hates you, too.
Frankly, the last thing on my mind would be God’s will in all this. Maybe that is why the Spirit of God reaches out to us when we least expect it. The Patriarch, Jacob, received God’s call in a dream. God promised to give him land and numerous descendants and never leave him. Jacob’s Spirit responded that he, in turn, would be faithful to God and give of himself in service to God. Such faith and trust in God are also illustrated in today’s Gospel.
For me to respond to a call, I must be prepared in some way. I must hear the call. I must have some ability to respond. I must be willing to respond. With faith and trust, I pray for these gifts.
