Monday of the Fourth Week of Advent
Hannah enters the temple carrying the child she once feared she would never hold. There is no spectacle, no dramatic gesture. She simply offers Samuel to the Lord with the quiet strength of someone who has prayed, waited, and trusted when nothing seemed to change. Her gesture invites us to look honestly at our own lives. What have you carried in silence for years, perhaps wondering whether God noticed? What desire, worry, or long-held hope has shaped your prayer behind closed doors? Hannah shows that these hidden places are not ignored by God. They are where faith is formed.
Mary’s Magnificat deepens this invitation. Mary sings because she recognizes that God has seen her in her lowliness. She knows she is not powerful or prominent, yet she understands that God delights in meeting people precisely where their lives seem ordinary, fragile, or unfinished. Her song asks each of us to pause and consider: When have I sensed God noticing me, even in small or unexpected ways? Where has grace brushed against my life in a moment so quiet that I might have dismissed it?
Both women reveal that God’s work usually begins long before it becomes visible. Their transformations were not sudden. They were prepared in years of prayer, fidelity, and openness. And the same is true for us. Today is an invitation to name the hidden beginnings of grace within your own story, to trust that God has been at work even when you felt unseen, and to place those quiet places back into God’s hands with renewed confidence.
