Monday of the Fourth Week of Easter
“God has then granted life-giving repentance to the Gentiles too.” Acts 11:18.
Ps. 42. “Athrist is my soul for the living God.”
“I am the gate for the sheep… Whoever enters through me will be saved.
I came so that they might have life, and have it more abundantly.” John 10: 8,10.
When I attended college seminary, I loved being the comedian of my class. I enjoyed spreading laughter and good humor. One classmate of mine, Jean, knew how to take a joke and give it back. He always gave me a hard time, and I would throw it right back at him. Incidentally, he loved the TV show Glee, a musical drama series. He was watching the show with his entourage on the third floor of our dorm, and I wanted to play a quick trick on him, so I found the power breaker for the floor, found the switch for the TV lounge room, and turned the lights out on him while he was watching his favorite show. Safe to say he knew it was me pretty quickly.
I find this story in Acts very comical and ironic because, in all truth, we are the Gentiles of our age. We are in the Church by the grace of God. We cannot earn it our buy our membership and salvation while we do prepare ourselves for eternity by our actions and integrity. We need to keep Jesus’ statement in John 10:10 before our hearts at always that He came to give us life. That is Jesus’ Raison d’etre, His will for us. God comes to save us and give us eternal life. The joke is on the Devil. We are saved from the hold of death and given new life, life eternal. Amen.
