Monday of the Fourth Week of Lent
Jesus goes into Cana of Galilee for the first time since his public ministry began. Coming from Samaria, he saw that he wasn’t wanted there since that is where he was from. They all thought he was crazy. Their hearts were hard and like stone, and there was no light in those hearts—nothing but darkness. Going to Galilee, he sees the man who begs him to heal his son before he dies. Jesus sees in his heart, but gives him a test first and says, “‘Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.’ The royal official said to him, ‘Sir, come down before my child dies.’ Jesus said to him, ‘You may go; your son will live.’ The man believed what Jesus said to him and left.”
Sounds like this royal official did his homework. He cared more about his son. He didn’t care about signs or wonders. He knew that Jesus was the Messiah and our God, and he just wanted his son to be healed! Jesus, who is God, saw in his heart, and he passed the test! He had the light of Christ with him; do you carry the light of Christ? Can you, through Jesus’ name, perform the same healing to those who need it? Probably not like the royal official’s son, but still, even the smallest act of love can heal wounds that are unimaginable to us!
