Monday of the Ninth Week of Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

In today’s Gospel, we hear Jesus say before he gives up His Spirit, “I thirst.” He wasn’t only physically thirsty, but he was also spiritually thirsty. And He is still thirsty today. But what is He thirsty for? He is thirsty for you; he desires you!

I am reminded of a letter that St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta wrote, “He [Jesus] longs for you. He misses you when you don’t come close. He thirsts for you. He loves you always, even when you don’t feel worthy. Even if you are not accepted by others, even by yourself sometimes — He is the one who always accepts you.”

Jesus thirsts for our love every day, but it is up to each of us to respond to the call of His love. Ask Our Lady to help you to respond; as Jesus gave St. John to her, He also gives us His Mother. I challenge you to call upon Our Lady; ask her to help you draw ever closer to Our Lord and help quench His thirst for you.
