Monday of the Second Week of Easter

Today's Mass Readings

Jesus uses an expression with Nicodemus today in our gospel that Nicodemus finds puzzling. Jesus tells him that one must be born from above to the enter the Kingdom. This was an image Jesus was using to communicate the newness one will experience when they take on this new identity, this new form that He, Christ, brings from heaven. When Adam and Eve committed that first sin, they turned their needs downward, and made the earth their parent for themselves and all their children after them. Before this, they looked up to God for their needs, and this is what Jesus restores. Once again, through Jesus, God fulfills the needs of the people with the Spirit that He pours over them. And once again, we raise our heads and eyes upward to Him. Jesus’ death and resurrection happened 2,000 years ago, and the newness and rebirth that he brings will never get old, and will never age. If we are dedicated to our faith, we will always experience this newness. St. Peter Chanel and St. Louis Mary de Montfort, pray for us.
