Monday of the Sixth Week in Ordinary Time
In our first reading, we hear the story of Cain and Abel and the betrayal of brothers due to resentment. In the Gospel, we hear the Pharisees wanting a sign from Jesus, but he tells them “no sign will be given to this generation.” There are many things to say about these passages, but I want to focus on our Responsorial Psalm. We hear today, “Offer to God a sacrifice of praise.” This serves as a reminder for us that regarding everything that we are able to do in our daily life, we can accomplish it only because God has given us the grace to complete it. An example of this would be my philosophy paper for class. If God did not give me the grace of perseverance and wisdom, I would not be able to complete my assignment for class.
In the craziness of our life, we need to be able to remember that God has given us the ability to do everything we do. We can do this by spending a small amount of time to pause in our busy schedules to thank God in prayer for our gifts so that we can offer a small sacrifice of praise to our Lord.
