Monday of the Third Week of Advent
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells the Chief Priests and the Elders that he would let them know by the authority. He does all of his merciful love so that they would need to answer him, “where was John’s baptism from? Was it of heavenly or of human origin?”
Jesus shows Divine Mercy to these Chief Priests and Elders. He wants them to answer correctly and say it was by heavenly origin. Yes, Jesus probably would have scolded them by saying, as they discussed, “If we say ‘Of heavenly origin,’ he will say to us, ‘Then why did you not believe him?’” but as the psalmist says in Psalm 141, “Let a righteous person strike me; it is mercy if he reproves me.” As anyone would do if they love another, they correct the person and show them love and mercy, just like my father would do to me. Is there a way you can show mercy to someone? That be someone you know well or someone on the streets, because actions speak louder than words!
