Monday of the Twelfth Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

The gospel today gives us the sad truth of our human nature. We are persons who are quick to judge others. But when it comes time to judge ourselves, we move like turtles. There’s a very important lesson here that needs to be looked at. Taking the time to reflect and pray about our own failures and wrongdoings helps us to see our weaknesses. And in recognizing our weaknesses and taking ownership of them, we turn to God to be that rock that holds our fragile state. In doing this and acknowledging this, we will become more understanding and more patient with the struggles and failures that others have. Jesus wanted his disciples to see this point in their ministry to his people. Jesus selected the weak and the broken to help the weak and the broken.

The next time you are ready to snap at someone, to judge them, to call them out, because of their weaknesses, remember, you put on your shoes the same way… you are weak too. Be slow to judge others, and quick to judge self.
