Monday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time
I love intercessory prayer, praying for another person, whether that be a short prayer to Jesus, Mary, or one of the saints, saying a rosary for someone, or simply lighting a candle in front of our Blessed Mother statue or the icons of Sts. Joseph and Benedict. In these readings today, especially the responsorial psalm it has everything to do with intercessory prayer. We hear in our responsorial psalm “Blessed be the Lord, for He has heard my prayer.” The Lord hears our pleading, no matter how low in life we are right now, He always hears us.
When I was going through a tough time in my life, I would refer people to this painting by Magdalena Katańska called “Forth Eorlingas!” from the Lord of the Rings—The Return of the King.
It helps me to remind myself that God is the light in the darkness, and I can offer that prayer for someone who is going through a tough time. It hangs above my desk in my office, and I can thank God every day for bringing me and those whom I pray for to an even deeper intimate relationship with Him.
