Monday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

He comes to save the living and the dead! In our first reading, Paul is speaking to the Thessalonians about their deceased family members and friends. If this is something that Paul is addressing, then it was very likely a great concern of the people. They had worries about what would happen to the souls of their deceased community and family members. Paul calms them by letting them know that on the last day, the dead will be raised up, and then all the living. Christ conquered death when He was resurrected. Christ won salvation for the world on that Easter Sunday. But this isn’t the time to sit back and watch what else he can do for us. We have work to do! Our work is to have faith, our work is to believe in Him. Let’s not be skeptical, let’s not doubt like those in our gospel today who didn’t believe when Jesus said, “Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”
