Saturday in the Octave of Easter
If loving the Lord is wrong, I don’t want to be right! I remembered this line from a movie as I read today’s first reading from Acts. The movie line basically reflects Peter and John’s stance before the Sanhedrin. The Sanhedrin have sternly instructed them to stop preaching the Good News of Jesus Christ. Peter and John know that what they are doing is right, and with the Spirit of the Lord in them, they can’t be stop. Others say Peter and John’s work is blasphemous, that it’s dangerous, that it’s wrong. Peter and John don’t listen to the negative response. In fact, they become more firm in their faith.
Peter and John’s story resembles that of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. The three boys who were up against a King who wanted them to worship an idol, they refused because they already had their God. For refusing they were thrown into a fire pit. Guess what? They didn’t care about the punishment, because in their eyes they were right, and they had God with them to protect them. God delivered them! And He will deliver and keep safe those who love Him and stick with Him.
Brothers and sisters, don’t listen to the hate. Don’t listen to those who say there is no God. Don’t listen to those who say our faith is old and outdated. Don’t listen to those who say you are wrong. We have the Christ! The Victor over death and sin! If loving the Lord is wrong, I don’t want to be right! He is Risen! Alleluia!
