Saturday of the Fifteenth Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

Reflect on these words in the Gospel today, “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved in whom I delight.” The Father says these words to Jesus. Now imagine these words being spoken to you.

We must see God as a father who loves us deeply. Our experience of God the Father is most often based on our earthy experiences, for good or bad. I ask you to begin discovering what your thoughts and experiences are today. Take time to carefully and thoughtfully ask yourself these questions, even write them out if that helps.

How do I see God? Is he a loving father or a task-master? Do you try and compete for his love, or do you share that love freely with others? Do you see the Father’s authority as a source of pain or distrust, or do you see his authority as a way of restoring your dignity? Are you freely open to the Father’s love, or is it guarded, condition, and based on past performance or failure?

These are hard questions to ask; even more, it is challenging to be honest when answering. Sincerely take to heart the words spoken to Jesus today as the truth of how the Father says to you: you are my beloved in whom I delight.
