Saturday of the Fifth Week of Lent

Today's Mass Readings

“Now the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went up from the country to Jerusalem before Passover to purify themselves. They looked for Jesus and said to one another as they were in the temple area, ‘What do you think? That he will not come to the feast?’”

My grandmother, Bernice Migliazzo, passed away a couple of months ago. I remember living at her house during the summer months to enjoy my grandparents’ pool and the Italian tradition of being with family on Sundays. If someone was not at her house, she would call so many times, sometimes hunting for my mom, “Debbie, where are you? You never call me!” The Italian guilt is real! When the whole family was together, everything was complete in her world.

Will Jesus come to the feast? Of course! He is the feast! We consume his flesh and blood and this coming Holy Thursday, we will once again commemorate the institution of the priesthood, will you be at the feast, like my grandmother—Mimi we called her. Will Jesus be calling saying to you, “Are you coming to the feast? Don’t you love me?” Come to the feast, like an Italian household that had so much love there is always a seat open. No one is here to judge. Come as you are, and enjoy the feast! I pray that you all have a Blessed Easter season.
