Saturday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

Today's Mass Readings

As we come to the end of this week’s reflections we need to take stock of what we have learned. We have learned we must take the time to encounter Christ in the scriptures to learn who he is and what he is asking of us. Then we must act on what we have learned by loving those whom we meet, even if it brings us out of our comfort zone. To help us with this, Christ gives us his body in the Eucharist as true spiritual and physical food that strengthens us in time of trial.

We have also learned that there is power in what we suffer because Christ, who suffered, has brought his power to us in his acts of healing and encounter. We must also come to grips with the fact we have sinned and carry guilt with us that needs the light of Christ through the sacrament of confession.

So, what do we do now? We must listen to Christ’s command to us, “Follow me!” Levi is a great example of who we are and can become. He was a tax collector and sinner but the Lord chose him to be a disciple. He chooses you as well to follow him and be someone special. You are called to be witnesses to the Word that pierces hearts and minds. You are called to be bold proclaimers of God’s work in your own life. You are called to follow Christ on the path of glory.

Hear that God has been speaking to you all week: You are my beloved child, in you I am well pleased. Now, come follow me.
